Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's death the family of Ford, they were looked after by her mother, grandmother and godparents. In her early years she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to word associations. Ford started acting in her teen years and joined a member of the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she would not be a good choice for this school. Ford returned to Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth application, she was finally accepted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character in Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993. However, prior to that, Ford made a television debut as a character in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in the year 1991. Ford took the professional title of Catherine Tate. Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties in shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. In addition to her regular stage work, Tate was a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. But Tate quickly began gaining recognition for her stand-up comedic performances and added stand-up comedy to her resume in the year 1996.
